Siena University lacrosse coach Liam Gleason died just days after suffering an "an accident at home," the Franciscan university in upstate New York announced on Wednesday.
The 41-year-old's unexpected passing came seven months after he led Siena to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) title, the program's first league championship since 2014.
"Siena University is profoundly saddened to share the tragic news of the passing of men’s lacrosse head coach Liam Gleason," according to a statement by the school in Loudonville, New York, just 5 miles north of Albany.
“Coach Gleason, who had just turned 41 this past Friday, passed away Wednesday following injuries sustained Sunday in an accident at home.”

Gleason had led Siena for seven seasons and was the MAAC's 2025 coach of the year.
“A sudden, senseless loss carries a kind of pain that defies understanding,” Siena President Chuck Seifert said in a statement.
“It’s hard to imagine anyone more universally loved and admired than Liam. Our community was blessed by Coach Gleason’s life.”
Gleason is survived by his parents Kevin and Susan, brother Brendan, wife Jaclyn and their three children — daughter Kennedy and sons Penn and Tate.
His funeral is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the UHY Center at Siena.
